The MB 805/806, MB 820 and MB 836 engines
Daimler-Benz AG began building high-speed diesel engines for railway traction almost 10 years later than Maybach.
By this time, plain bearings had been developed to such an extent that Daimler-Benz was able to equip the base and connecting rod bearings of the engines with plain bearings.
The series began in 1932 with the 12-cylinder naturally aspirated MB 805 engine with 300 hp. This was followed in 1936 by the MB 806, also uncharged, with 450 hp. This engine was later equipped with a System-Büchi exhaust turbocharger and thus produced 650 hp (now called MB 816).
