| Mercedes-Benz OM 646, OM 647 og OM 648 var en serie med dieselmotorer, bestående av en 4, en 5 og en 6 sylindret motor. Disse motorene erstattet de eldre OM 611, OM 612 og OM 613. Både OM 646, OM 647 og OM 648 hadde 88.0 mm borring og 88.3 mm slaglengde, blokk i støpejern, lettmetall topp, og var utstyrt med andregenerasjons Bosch common-rail direkteinsprøytning av disel. Commonrailtrykket var opp til 1600 bar. Motorene var utstyrt med turboer med variabel geometri, luft til luft intercooler, og dobble overliggende kamaksler, som virket på 4 ventiler pr sylinder via vippearmer. Motorene hadde 18.0:1 i kompresjon og en elektronisk styrt EGR ventil. Løftepumpen var elektrisk.
