Mercedes Benz Diesel Engine MB 839
This engine type is a further development of the proven 12-cylinder MB 820 model. It shares the same features as all Mercedes Benz high-performance diesel engines and is suitable for all applications, particularly for installation in rail vehicles, boats, and for powering stationary equipment.
Construction and Operating Specifications:
16-cylinder in-line V-shaped engine, water-cooled, operates in 4-stroke cycles according to the Daimler Benz pre-chamber principle.
Power output up to 2000 hp at 1500 rpm without turbocharging
Power output up to 2500 hp at 1500 rpm with supercharging
Cylinder bore 185 mm, stroke 230 mm
Total displacement 98.9 liters
Compression ratio 1:17
The turbocharging is provided by two BBC exhaust turbochargers with intercoolers.
The crankcase, which extends up to the cylinder head, is made of light alloy, while the individual cylinder heads are made of gray cast iron. The crankshaft and connecting rod run on plain bearings. The engine rotates counterclockwise and is non-reversible. Starting is electric via two Bosch starters.
